About the Event

Akio Takamori - Patti Warashina - Jun Kaneko

The Ceramic Symposium II is dedicated to Akio Takamori (1950-2017). It builds on three solo exhibitions of work by Akio Takamori, Patti Warashina, and Jun Kaneko, held concurrently at Otterbein in The Fisher Gallery, The Miller Gallery, and The Frank Museum of Art (August to December, 2019). The Symposium will explore issues of influence and appropriation of Japanese culture and aesthetics in contemporary ceramics, as well as other topics identified by and of interest to participants.

A Juried High School Student Art exhibition will be on display and celebrated (including an awards reception) during the Symposium. Download a call for entries here.

The Symposium also is part of the Otterbein and the Arts: Opening Doors to the World (ASIA: 2019-2020) programming, with the Gateway countries of Japan and Nepal.
